Significance of Music in our Lives
Music usually finds a way to our heart, to soothe or even encourage us. That’s why when you here a certain song, you become nostalgic. It may remind us a time in our lives that something happened and completely shaped us.
That’s how this song by Holly McNarland – ‘In The Air Tonight’ really changed my life. The song played on the night when I met my wife. I had gone for a birthday party which I had been invited by a co-worker.
The birthday happened to fall on a weekend so a lot had been planned for the night than I had anticipated. We really had a good time as we enjoyed our selves. Then I went outside to light a cigarette. As I was smoking, that when the love of my life came by. She approached me and asked if I had an extra cigarette. I took one form the pack and gave it to her as I went ahead to light it for her.
The Song that Brought us Together
As we smoked, none of us said a word to each other. I was a bit nervous as I question myself if such a beautiful maiden could be single. That’s when the song was played. I don’t quiet remember what happened by we found our way to a couch near the stoop and sat there together.
The shyness must have eluded us because we talked for about an hour before my co-worker came out looking for us. He thought that I had gone home unceremoniously.
Once inside Jeff, my co-worker whispered to me that the girl was new in the neighborhood and I should really hit on her.
That marked the beginning our dating and two years down the line we got married. However, things were not as we all anticipated and we began having some domestic issues to the extent that I opted for a divorce but it was not that forthcoming given that we had a daughter, 4 and already in school. So we decided to separate for a while so that we could have a personal reflection and try to deduce what either of us really wanted in life.
A Song’s Nostalgia Revives our Marriage
We were separated for 7 weeks before we met again during a parents’ event for our daughter that was organized by the school. While there as other parent and guest were arriving, it’s when the song was played again. It hummed in my ears and I was about to remind my wife about and its significance in our lives but she to be the one to talk about it.
It reminded us about much of what we had been while we were dating and all the promises that we made to each other.
All that must have touched us because within the next 5 weeks we were happy together again. We even went to renew our vows and up to date we are one big happy family.
